Screams in the darkness....

Screams could be heard during the night.. Horrible screams..

At first, they all thought it was an animal being devoured by a predator that was lurking just beyond the stables south-west of Britain, but the screams continued..

Soon, fear gripped the citizens of Britain as farmers eager to sell their crops, make gruesome discoveries of dismembered bodies strewn about Gung Farmer's bridge on the way into the city..
After sunset, fathers did not dare venture outside the city walls... Mother's kept their children close, never letting them out of their sight.. The smell of fear was thick in the air...

It was said long ago that a great storm would come to cleanse the land of filth, gluttony and opulence.. It would wash over the world like a great flood, restoring the land to it's natural state. This story was passed down from father to son, father to son, until, over many decades, it was lost. Only the very eldest of the elders in the city remember it.

The Beggar of Britain, who most thought of as a "crazy old man" was the first to give warning of the storm. As he wandered the streets of Britain, he would babble about "the strangers" and that "they are here". No one listened, and no one seemed to care, until..

Survivors returning from adventures in all of the many dungeons of Britannia told grizzly tales of the horror. "they slaughtered everyone!", "we begged for our lives and they would not have it!" they said.

Soon, it became clear that life, as they knew it, was over.. Fear had gripped the citizens like never before! Gone were the times of luxury and lavishness. Only sadness and despair remained. The citizens prayed for help from the gods, but none would come.. All hope was lost as the slaughter went on.
