From the Research Notes of the Dark Son Ahriman.
It has recently come to our attention that a few new breeds of “pets” as these adventurers call them seem to have surfaced… those pets being of daemonic, ethereal warrior, and orcish in nature.
So be it! I ordered the cultists to gather up some faithful researchers and went on to experiment. Given the origins of each, I decided to throw my resources to developing our notes on the Daemons… Get that tragedy out of the way.
Let us begin.
You may think all daemons are fierce and bloodthirsty creatures that crave only the battle and glory of the destruction of humans… you would be correct. But some are very much able to be manipulated, whether purposeful or not is still to be debated, but we have come upon three species of which we were able to tame, I use the term loosely. Each of these beings differently but related, a daemon, an ice fiends, and a balron of all things. Hence why I believe their servitude is more willing-deceit. But one a rare occasion they have been known to carry a strange blood red crystal.
Whence it was retrieved, I took it to my lab to begin my studies posthaste. A contingent of my researcher stayed to fetch more specimens.
Once I touched the strange gem, it glowed and a thick haze filled the room, suddenly an Orb of Hellfire rushed past me, splattering one of my servants against the cold stone. At once I dispelled the haze in the room to see a curious little figure before me.
A MONGBAT was just sitting there looking upon me as though it had just laid eyes on its would-be mother. One of the students shook away the horror of his comrade being killed and charged the creature. Needless to say he was a lump of bone and flesh pounded into the cobblestone. As it would follow me like a puppy, I figured I’d try my will upon him, he seems to have accepted me to be his Master, good thing too. Else I would have had a dozen dragons have a snack.
Eventually the creature changed form once more, this time it resembled an Imp. It seems to have gotten phsyically stronger, faster and smarter. A daemonic power gleaned in its eyes, craving to be unleashed, we did just that and set off against ever increasingly difficult opponents to test its might against. The results were astonishing. Of course we had to do this many times to make sure the results were uniform, and indeed they were… to a point.
Stone Gargoyle was what the next form most closely resembled.
Gargoyle Enforcer surprisingly so, still gaining power, ever hungry for more souls.
Regular Gargoyle is a form that had piqued the curiousity of a warrior in my employ, without permission or hesitation he rushed this form of the daemon, I guess he was convinced he could dispatch it as he had others. He was wrong, dead wrong. Whether being paid by would be copy-cats of my research, he is dead, as is any trail to my opponent’s.
Gargoyle Destroyer, this form gave me pause for a moment because this form is indeed of relation to a gargoyle rarer then the others…
And this is where it gets tricky, it would seem at this point there is an underlying genetic factor or mutation that is randomized.
For the most part after the Gargoyle Destroyer form they mostly transitioned into Balron’s, but it’s not really astonishing because aside from the Dark One… Balron’s are the most powerful.
A bit more uncommon was when they became more akin to those of the Ice Fiend’s, and most Rare and unexpected was those that resembled regularDaemon’s. I only feel slight pity for foolhardy warriors thinking to best this beast like a common Daemon…
Once more though… there are even more discrepancy’s, it took some time to study their language but it wasn’t too hard any learned magi should learn. But other daemon’s hailed these highest stage of beings with titles.
Most common was the title of Death Bringer, followed by Butcher of Hordes, and most rare and respectful the Prince of Chaos.
Thus ends my research on these beings, I will have to require more funds and associates to continue further research upon the other beings in my lists.
