(From the Journal of the Dark Son Ahriman)
The next time that fool brings one of those to me I’ll feed him to the Wyrms!

I don’t see what the big deal is…. its just a spider egg. But never before have I seen him face drain of color so completely… It was priceless.
But should the rumors and true and follow form of the dragon’s we’ve trained… oh the end result will surely have him cursing all eternity for such creatures.
Following the Master’s instruction’s and how he hatched the last creature’s I placed the spider egg both hands, cleared my mind and channeled my essence into it. I could feel it moving within then slowly but surely the webbing parted and there sat this cutest little creature, at first glance it looked like a Fire Ant from the dungeon of Fire. But no, it has another set of legs, and all those little eyes. I handed it some carrion to which it had a joyous time playing with, afterward it crawled up the length of my leg and tunic before it stopped, sitting upon my shoulder. I think my little friend and I are going to have some fun for sure.
We headed out of the laboratories, and to some of the places that were mentioned to “training” these creatures. On our trip to the first grounds a few of the local’s recognized my leathers and set themselves against my advancement, normally this situation would’ve been my undoing, but that little spider… it shot a spider web at the first of these “righteous fellows” then it vanished in a puff of smoke and reappeared on the head of another idiot as it’s legs split the fellows skull wide open and exposed his brain. That was a howl of pain I will never forget, then just as he started to scream he fell silent as the spider’s fangs ripped deep into his grey matter. At that little display, their valorous-hearts resolve had dissolved and they fled to their villages. As I walked up to the little creature, it danced in the gore of its first kill, and screeched happy screeches as I came close and patted it atop its thorax. Cute little creature, vicious, but cute.
A few hours later we reached the grounds and were set upon immediately by the undead of the area. That little spider went into a flurry spinning this way and that, spells and spider webs, mandibles and fangs sinking deep into its victims.
After the flurry had settled down, and I finished off the last few stragglers with a bow I’ve found, the spider crawled onto my back and hung there for some time, moving this way and that, for a time then it sat still. AS I passed by a lake I turned to look at my back and it seems to have made a cocoon. Just as I saw the cocoon, and marveled at its size, it began to move once more and hatched again. This form through me for a loop, a little bigger in size, but still able to ride on my back. I happened upon a ranger in the woods and asked his assistance in identifying the species of spider. He called it a Wolf Spider. But could sense it was no mundane creature. I gave him a few rations and coin for his trouble and he obliged with writing me up a list of arachnids and their descriptors, both mundane and mythical. We parted ways that evening, off to the next area.
We made it to out destination a few days later, but being that it was later and my legs weary from the walk. I decided we’d find a large oak and sleep among the branches. As I started my ascent to the top, the spider hopped off me, and started spinning a web. When I made it up, I noticed it was larger and thicker then any web I’ve seen. Suspiciously I looked at the spider and I swear it pointed at me and danced a little circle on the… Hammock, and acted like it was laying down and repeated it a few time. Tentatively I patted my hand on it, definitely not a usual web, it didn’t stick to me one bit. So I crawled into it and fell asleep nearly immediately. It must have been one hell of a good sleep, I swear the sun was at high-noon when I awoke, but that wasn’t the only surprise the greeted me. Another cocoon had been spun next to me last night, even larger then it was before. So I sat there and waiting for it to malt again, and studied up on what the ranger had supplied me. When it emerged I could’ve swore the spider smiled at me…. Looking over its patterns and its size I surmised it to be a Trap Door Spider.
And so it went on like this for many months, we’d travel and in the places we trained, the spider set up camp for me as it hunted in its natural element. I swear I’ve never ate so well in my life. The winter is setting in and I had best get these note back to Ahriman… He’ll be most displeased if they don’t reach him by the Winter Solstice. The next few forms my friend took were that of a Giant Spider, a Dread Spider, and a Frost Spider. Each of these forms bigger then the previous. Of course I cannot carry him upon me any more. I do miss those day when he was so innocent looking…
We were waylayed the other day by a greater wyrm… I’m nervous… The best was laid low, but not before nearly killing my friend… I was lucky with that last shot. I helped my friend out of the area and into a secluded cave, I could hear running water and I had enough torches to keep the area well let and free of fire-fearing darklings, So I collapsed the cave entrance behind us. When I got back to her, she made another cocoon… I only hope and pray that she would emerge from it renewed and healthy.
It’s been a fortnight and supplies are dwindling… The cocoon hasn’t made any movement in the past few days… I guess I’ll pay my respects and move down into the darkness…
It was hours and I can hear them circling about me, snapping their jaws, and clicking back and forth to one another. As I was about to step to my doom. I felt something huge running at my from behind… but the vibrations so numerous it was no normaly bipedal or four-legged creature… It was her! She lived, I fell to my knees, lost in joy for my friend did indeed live, and in my time of need, as always, she was there.
After the commotion I could feel her looking at my, but I couldn’t bare my embarrassment, as I felt I left her for dead. But she has accepted me as I was, and as I always have been.
Given that I was night blind, I could not tell the scope of my companion and all i could do was follow a web rope she spun for me as I follow behind. I could see a hint of light ahead in the distance, she stopped and pushed me forward slightly. I was reluctant at first, but complied and she followed a few paces behind. I closed my eyes for the final few steps as I took in a deep breath of the night air, as I turned to bade her forth, she was now the hesitant one, but after a few minutes I coaxed her out of the cave. I swear my eyes were as big as tea saucers when she emerged… Towering over me, this form did follow from what I got the egg from in the first place. It’s form followed that ofMephitis, a legendary arachnid of great power. I began to sketch my friend, and with comparison I drew the ranger of which whom gave the information to me. As I finished my sketch and as I write this final piece… a servant of Ahriman teleported in.
